Mission Face Shields Part 1: A Search and Rescue

Many industries are feeling the impact of COVID-19 and MISUMI is continuing to do their part to fight COVID-19. In fact, a hospital reached out to MISUMI’s Consumer Goods Business Development Manager on the West Coast, John Hildebrand, with a plea for face shields. John was then paired with fellow Business Development Manager, Cornel Luca who was working on 3D printing face shields for a collaboration. Unfortunately, there was not enough time to iron out a fully accepted design in order to meet the customer’s needs. They knew the medical workers needed the shields as soon as possible.

Naturally, John reached out to his vast industry network via Social Media. One major brand in California responded to him in an instant with an already existing and accepted design. Luckily, they already had 200 shields ready to go. Therefore, the face shields were sent to John’s customer at of course no charge!

John was also able to coordinate with his contacts at ShieldLA, a COVID-19 PPE Relief Organization (Donate here!), to get shields transported to medical staff on the frontlines of COVID-19. A true collaborative effort was made to get these sent out and we are proud of John for working so quickly in response to a customer plea.

John and Cornel are still working diligently on a face shield design that could be used in the healthcare industry. Stay tuned for Mission Face Shields Part 2 a review of their designs! Also, be sure to read more on MISUMI’s role in fighting COVID-19 here.
