The MISUMI Story Pt. 2: Rapid Design

Who is MISUMI? Although MISUMI is a household name in many Asian countries, many still don’t fully understand what we do in North America. That is somewhat understandable since as a manufacturer and distributor of over 21 million components it can be hard to pin us down to doing one thing. Although we may never have the luxury of sheer simplicity, we are telling the MISUMI story in a fresh new way at our upcoming appearance at the 2018 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago where over 115,000 industrial decision-makers attend every year.

IMTS is only a few days away (5 as of this writing), but we wanted to get a head start in telling the story of MISUMI based on the four towers present at our booth.

Rapid Design

Rapid Design was developed by engineers for engineers. At MISUMI, there is always a passion to make our customer’s lives easier and to save them time. After all the engineer’s job is to develop solutions to make people’s lives easier. The goal with Rapid Design is to reduce design time for engineers. Each unique software suite enables customers to design with more freedom.

Rapid Design is a tool that allows users to configure, import, and manipulate MISUMI components directly in SOLIDWORKS. Rapid Design is completely free for MISUMI customers.

Factory Automation

MISUMI began as a distributor of automation components. The demand for high quality and custom components impacted MISUMI to become a manufacturer of configurable components. MISUMI’s configurable model allows for customers to choose specifications such as material, surface treatment and dimensions on the misumiusa.com website without the need for a drawing. Some dimensions can be chosen with up to 0.01mm increments.

The product category of factory automation is the largest and most diverse set of components MISUMI carries. The components range from linear motion, rotary motion, power transmission, jigs, and fixturing, and materials. Factory automation components are used in a variety of industries from automotive to 3D printing and not necessarily in the factory environment. But MISUMI’s components can be selected to have specific materials and surface treatments to be compatible in a factory environment.
