How do I calculate timing belt length?

Dear MISUMI Engineering Team,

Why have you removed the calculator for the timing belts (i.e HTBN type S2/3/4M) fitting pulleys from your website? I found those quite useful and now they are removed. Also, do you have any plans on showing the formula you use for calculating the length of the belt? Sometimes it shows other lengths then what my own calculations show. Does it have something to do with assemblies and slack of the belt that your formulas take into account for since both pulleys and belt are from Misumi?

Arne J.

Hi Arne, Thanks for your question! We are currently working on getting the pulley selection tool added back onto the site after some recent updates. For now, here is the direct link! http://bit.ly/1ngX6Qn . Additionally, please see the images below for calculating the belt length. You’ll notice there are three images. To determine the belt length begin with Step 4, then Step 5, and then the Tables 28 and 29. The image will also illustrate the formula the MISUMI Engineering team uses to calculate belt length. Click here for an informational guide on our wide variety of timing belts.
